In this workshop, we will focus on nature/street photography as it is the most accessible to beginners. You don’t need a human or animal subject, you just need you as a camera and film will be provided. We will be meeting at Lincoln Park and exploring the park that we all know and love. You will learn how to take portraits and landscapes while focusing on different types of light. This workshop is great for complete beginners but also those who are familiar with digital photography and are interested in exploring the world of film photography.

You will learn my unique perspective on approaching photography. I will encourage you to view film photography as a meditation practice and will encourage you to view your beloved neighborhood in a different light. You will only have a set amount of photos so it will force you to zone in and focus while also learning quickly. You will receive your photos about 2 weeks later and I will send you an email with my notes on them for you to continue your journey in photography! The camera that you will be using for the workshop will be available for sale. I am beyond excited to introduce this workshop. My hope is to ignite a curiosity in photography while also providing a launch pad for beginners.

What will be provided?

• Black and White Film (Ilford HP5 400 B&W) for your camera

• Camera will be provided (can be purchased after workshop if you like it and want to pursue film photography further)

• Film Development (will be outsourced by lab)

• Introduction to camera operation

  • ISO

  • Shutter Speed

  • Aperture

• Instruction on what makes a good picture!

  • Lighting 

  • Composition

  • Framing 

  • The right settings for different types of photos.

• Two weeks later I will email you your scanned photos with my personalized notes and tips on your pictures!

• If I don't receive more than 3 participants, the event will be canceled and you will be refunded in full. I will let you know 24 hours in advance. 

• If you cannot make it please let me know 24 hours in advance. If you do not let me know, I unfortunately cannot give you a full refund if not given notice because the materials will already be bought.
